5 days itinerary

Seoul Itinerary 2026

Seoul is a city of profound contrasts: ancient palaces surrounded by glass skyscrapers, Buddhist temples on mountain slopes, and a K-pop and beauty industry that has shaped global popular culture. This 5-day itinerary balances palaces, markets, mountains, and the unmissable food scene.

Day-by-Day Seoul Itinerary

1

Gyeongbokgung Palace + Bukchon

🌅 Morning

Gyeongbokgung Palace

Korea's largest and most impressive Joseon dynasty palace (₩3,000, free for hanbok wearers). The changing of the guard ceremony runs at 10am and 2pm. Arrive at 9am before the crowds.

☀️ Afternoon

Bukchon Hanok Village

The best-preserved hanok (traditional house) village in Seoul. Walk the steep lanes between 600-year-old houses — the views back toward Gyeongbokgung are spectacular. Respectful behaviour required (residential area).

🌙 Evening

Insadong + Gwanghwamun

Insadong is Seoul's traditional arts district: galleries, teahouses, and craft shops in a maze of alleyways. Evening meal at Tosokchon Samgyetang (samgye-tang ginseng chicken soup, est. 1983).

Tip: T-money card (₩3,000 deposit at any convenience store) works on all Seoul metro, buses, and taxis. The metro is clean, fast, and has English signage on every platform and train.

2

N Seoul Tower + Myeongdong

🌅 Morning

Namsan Mountain + N Seoul Tower

Take the cable car (₩10,000 return) or hike up Namsan (30 min). N Seoul Tower observatory (₩21,000) has 360° views. The love lock fence below the tower has tens of thousands of padlocks.

☀️ Afternoon

Myeongdong shopping

Seoul's main shopping district for K-beauty cosmetics (Innisfree, Nature Republic, Tony Moly), street food, and fashion. The Korean BBQ street food and tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) are excellent here.

🌙 Evening

Korean BBQ dinner

Myeongdong has dozens of excellent KBBQ restaurants. Try Maple Tree House (Itaewon) for premium wagyu, or any neighbourhood gogi-gui for affordable dwaeji-galbi (pork ribs). Soju is the mandatory accompaniment.

3

DMZ Day Trip

🌅 Morning

DMZ tour (book in advance)

The Demilitarized Zone separating North and South Korea is one of the world's most compelling geopolitical sites. Half-day tours from Seoul (₩50,000–80,000 with guide) include the Third Tunnel and Dorasan Observatory.

☀️ Afternoon

Hongdae + Sinchon

Return to Seoul for the university district of Hongdae — street performances, independent music venues, comic book cafes, and affordable Korean-fusion restaurants. The Sunday free market runs 1pm–6pm.

🌙 Evening

Han River parks

Yeouido or Banpo Hangang Park at sunset — rent a bike, buy fried chicken and beer from a convenience store (the Korean way), and watch the Banpo Bridge Rainbow Fountain show (9–9:45pm, weekends April–October).

4

Dongdaemun + Namdaemun Markets

🌅 Morning

Namdaemun Market (opens 5am)

One of Korea's oldest markets: clothing wholesale, street food, and the famous gimbap stalls. The sesame oil vendors alone are worth the visit. Opens at dawn, best before 10am.

☀️ Afternoon

Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP)

Zaha Hadid's futuristic 85,000sqm design complex — free to walk the exterior, design museum inside (₩10,000). The surrounding Dongdaemun fashion wholesale market is a feast of Korean contemporary fashion.

🌙 Evening

Dongdaemun shopping (midnight market)

The Dongdaemun markets are at their liveliest from 10pm to 5am — this is where Korean fashion buyers come after midnight. A uniquely Seoul experience.

Tip: Dongdaemun's wholesale fashion market sells at truly wholesale prices after midnight (minimum quantities apply). For retail, the Doota Mall stays open until 5am.

5

Noryangjin Fish Market + Departure

🌅 Morning

Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market

Open 24 hours. Buy fresh fish from the wholesale market on the ground floor, then take it to the upstairs restaurants who will prepare it for you for a small fee. Best experience at dawn with the fishermen.

☀️ Afternoon

Gangnam + COEX Mall

Walk the Gangnam streets (of the famous song), visit COEX Mall's Star Fields Library (free, spectacular space-frame ceiling), and browse the K-pop merchandise in the SM Entertainment store.

🌙 Evening

Airport transfer

AREX (Airport Railroad Express) from Seoul Station to Incheon (ICN): 43 min, ₩9,500. Allow 3 hours before international departures.
