Canggu FAQ

Which airport serves Canggu, Bali?

Canggu is served by Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), approximately 25–35 minutes by taxi (IDR 150,000–200,000) or Grab (IDR 80,000–120,000). Canggu is north of Seminyak and closer to the airport than Ubud.

What is Canggu known for?

Canggu is Bali's digital nomad and surf capital — a dense neighbourhood of specialty cafés with fast Wi-Fi, co-working spaces, left-hand surf breaks (Batu Bolong, Echo Beach), rice paddy Instagram spots, rooftop bars, and a younger creative crowd. It has displaced Seminyak as Bali's trendiest zone.

Is Canggu good for surfing?

Yes. Canggu has several surf breaks suitable for beginners to intermediate: Batu Bolong (most popular, left and right handers), Echo Beach (longer left, better for intermediate surfers), and Pererenan (quieter, less crowded). April to October is the best surf season. Surf schools charge USD 25–40 for a 2-hour lesson.

Is Canggu still good in 2026?

Canggu has become more crowded and expensive since 2022 but remains one of Southeast Asia's top nomad destinations. The café scene, surf, and nightlife (La Brisa, Old Man's, Lively) are still excellent. Prices are higher than Ubud but cheaper than equivalent quality in Europe. Traffic on Jl. Batu Bolong is the main downside.

Surfing in Canggu

Canggu sits on Bali's most consistent surf coast — Batu Bolong, Echo Beach, and Pererenan are all within 2km. The same island also offers world-class reef breaks in the south and liveaboard access to the Mentawai Islands via Padang.
