Siem Reap FAQ

Which airport serves Siem Reap?

Siem Reap is served by Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI), which opened in 2023 and replaced the old airport. It handles direct flights from Bangkok (BKK), Singapore (SIN), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), and several Chinese cities. The airport is 45 km from town — 40-50 minutes by taxi (USD 15-20).

What is Siem Reap known for?

Siem Reap is the gateway to Angkor Archaeological Park — the largest religious monument complex in the world, including Angkor Wat (the world's largest temple), Bayon, Ta Prohm (the Tomb Raider temple), and over 1,000 temples spread across 400 square kilometres. The city itself has a vibrant pub street, night market, and excellent Khmer cuisine.

How many days do I need in Siem Reap?

3 days is the standard — Day 1: Angkor Wat sunrise + Angkor Thom + Bayon. Day 2: Ta Prohm, Banteay Srei, outlying temples. Day 3: Phnom Bakheng sunset, Tonle Sap lake, Siem Reap town. 7-day passes allow you to explore the full complex including remote temples like Beng Mealea and Koh Ker.

When is the best time to visit Siem Reap?

November to March is the dry season — cool (25-30°C), clear skies, ideal for temple exploration. April and May are very hot (35-38°C). June to October is wet season — lush greenery, fewer tourists, 30% cheaper, but afternoon rain is common. The moat around Angkor Wat is fullest in wet season and reflects beautifully.
