Break Guide — Bali
The Breaks
6 sections from outside to cave. Gets hollow and heavy at 6ft+. Best at low tide.
Barreling left-hander. Only works on bigger swells (4ft+). Extremely shallow at low.
Fun peaks both ways. Very consistent. Gets crowded but spread across a wide beach.
Long sandy beach with gentle dumping waves. Best for lessons. 100+ surf schools.
Hollow barrel at 3–5ft. Very shallow. Not for the faint-hearted but less crowded than Uluwatu.

About Bali Surfing
Bali is the undisputed capital of surf travel in Asia. With over a dozen world-class breaks spread across the island — from the gentle beach breaks of Kuta and Seminyak to the thundering reef waves of Uluwatu and Padang Padang — Bali caters to every skill level. The dry season (April–October) brings consistent offshore winds and the best surf of the year.
Karma Kandara, Alila Villas Uluwatu, or Potato Head Beach Club area (Seminyak). Private cliff-top villas 5 min from Uluwatu with surf guides and boat access to breaks. Expect $400–800/night.
Canggu guesthouses ($20–40/night) or Kuta surf hostels ($10–15/dorm). Board hire $8–15/day. Dozens of surf schools at $30–50/2hr lesson including board.
Surf Camps & Schools
Bali has the densest surf camp market in Asia. Odysseys Surf School and Rip Curl School of Surf in Kuta cover beginners. For intermediate/advanced, Canggu camps like Drifter Surf Shop and Surfers Bali offer coaching, video analysis, and reef breaks coaching from $80–150/day including accommodation.
Getting to Uluwatu / Canggu
DPSFrom Ngurah Rai International (Denpasar) · ~25 km to the break
Cheapest option. App works well at DPS. Meet driver at Arrivals pick-up zone (level 1).
Fixed price, driver waits with name sign. Best for groups or heavy board bags.
Blue Bird taxis are honest and metered. Avoid unlicensed touts at arrivals.
Rent from Canggu or Kuta. International licence required. Not ideal with a board bag.
