First-timers: read this section carefully. The Coachella Valley desert is one of the most demanding festival environments in the world.
The heat is serious
April in the Coachella Valley means 35–40°C daytime temperatures. Wear sunscreen (reapply every 2 hours), bring a hat, and drink at least 2 litres of water per day. Free water refill stations are across the site.
Pack a warm layer
Desert nights drop fast — from 38°C at 4pm to 15°C by midnight. A light jacket or hoodie is essential once the sun goes down, especially if you are staying late.
Ditch the sandals
The Empire Polo Club grounds are dusty and uneven. Trainers or boots beat sandals every day of the festival. Your feet will thank you by Sunday.
Bring a portable charger
Phone signal gets congested across the site — location sharing, photo uploads and streaming all drain battery fast. A fully charged power bank is non-negotiable.
Use the on-site lockers
Rentable lockers are available across the grounds. Do not carry everything all day — leave valuables, extra supplies and chargers in a locker and lighten your load.
Leave LAX by 8am on Friday
The I-10 East towards the Coachella Valley becomes gridlock from mid-morning on the opening Friday. Leave Los Angeles before 8am or plan to arrive Thursday evening.
