🛬 Step-by-Step at the Airport Counter

  1. 1. Clear the aircraft & follow signs

After landing at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), follow the green 'Arrivals' signs. Look for the dedicated 'Visa on Arrival' counter before the main immigration hall — it is clearly signposted.

  2. 2. Collect & fill out the arrival form

Pick up the VOA application form at the counter or from trolleys near the queue. Fill in your full name, passport number, accommodation address in Sri Lanka, and purpose of visit.

  3. 3. Submit documents & pay the fee

Hand over your passport, completed form, return/onward ticket, and proof of accommodation. Pay USD 50 in cash or by card. The officer will issue your stamp — usually within 5 minutes.

  4. 4. Proceed to main immigration & baggage

With your stamped passport, join the regular immigration queue, then collect your luggage. You're all set to explore Sri Lanka for up to 30 days!

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Can I extend my Sri Lanka Visa on Arrival?

Yes. You can extend for up to 6 months at the Department of Immigration in Colombo. Apply before your 30-day stay expires and pay the applicable extension fee.

Is the ETA the same as Visa on Arrival?

No. The ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is applied for online before departure and is strongly recommended. The Visa on Arrival counter is for travellers who did not obtain an ETA beforehand.

What payment methods are accepted at the VOA counter?

The airport counter accepts US Dollars (cash), major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard), and occasionally Euros. Carry USD cash as backup — card machines can be slow during peak hours.
