Official Taxi Stand Location
Official Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) taxis wait directly outside the arrivals hall on the ground floor of each terminal. At Terminal 3, follow green "Taxi" signs after baggage claim — stands are clearly marked and staffed. Never accept rides from touts inside the terminal; they are illegal and routinely overcharge. All official taxis are cream-coloured with a distinctive roof light.

Rideshare: Careem & Uber
Both Careem and Uber operate legally at Dubai Airport and are often 10–20% cheaper than metered taxis during off-peak hours. Pickup is from designated rideshare zones on Level 1 of each terminal — look for signage after customs. Surge pricing applies during peak hours, so compare both apps before booking. Payment is cashless via the app, which also protects you with a receipt and driver details.
Careem (Downtown)
AED 50–75
Uber (Downtown)
AED 48–70
Scam Avoidance Tips
- Only board cream-coloured DTC taxis from official stands — never follow strangers offering 'fixed price' rides.
- Confirm the meter starts at AED 25 (airport surcharge) — if it doesn't, ask the driver to reset it.
- Agree on no extras before departure; luggage, tolls (Salik), and night surcharges are already included.
- Use Careem/Uber for a fully traceable, app-confirmed fare with no cash handling.
- Screenshot your route on Google Maps so you notice unnecessary detours.
FAQs
Is there a fixed price taxi from Dubai Airport?
No official fixed-price airport taxi exists. All DTC taxis use meters. The AED 25 airport surcharge is mandatory and legitimate — it replaces any 'fixed' deal offered by unofficial drivers.
How long does the taxi take from DXB to Downtown Dubai?
Around 20–30 minutes outside rush hour. During morning or evening peak traffic (7–9 am, 5–8 pm), expect 40–60 minutes on the Sheikh Zayed Road corridor.
Can I pay by card in a Dubai taxi?
Yes. All official DTC taxis accept Visa and Mastercard via an in-car terminal. However, carrying AED 50–100 in cash is handy if the card machine malfunctions.
